Terry - Thank you for the link, that website is excellent from what I have read so far. Will be looking for as much information as I can find about general Karate information.

Mike - I feel for you on the snow. Having lived in Indiana off the lake and being in Colorado now, I am sure you are getting your fair share in between.

Noah - I would enjoy it if you did more articles on specific types of Okinawan conditioning equipment. I can find the photos for them per normal, but you three are running circles around me when it comes to this equipment (never had time to use any of it before).

I've seen similar plans for chiishii, but not with pictures so that's nice to see! I would look some chiishii and nigiri game, myself, and I have already made a makiage out of a 1" oak dowel, parachute cord and a weight. Kettle bells would not do quite the same thing as chiishii, but they certainly would replace ishi-sashi.

Does anyone have a tou? I know there is another word for it but it escapes me at the moment--it is a bundle of small bamboo generally used to condition the fingers for nukite strikes. Higaonna Sensei has one, I know that much.

My poor makiwara is buried under a thick layer of snow right now. I'll be lucky to see it in the Spring at this rate!

Terry: that looks like a good plan for a chiishii (and thanks for providing the name). I think kettle bells can probably get the same effect/results, but I'll bet it's cheaper to make a chiishii with those plans. I wonder if Sensei would like to have a few at the dojo...

So far, it's just the typical conditioning during work-outs; push-ups on your knuckles, etc. When spring comes, I have a small spot in my back yard picked out to put a Makiwara. Also, I found this link (http://memoirsofagrasshopper.blogspot.com/2010/01/make-your-own-chiishii.html) on building your own chiishi, which I plan on making later this week. I also have "The Art of Hojo Undo" coming soon, which will give me some great ideas on using the chiishi for conditioning.

Would love to see some more ideas from others.
