New Forum and Contest

Newest Adventure

Every few months I sit down and come up with a new way to frustrate myself in hopes of making this website more useful. For those of you who have been reading since last year, you may remember the Buddypress integration that lasted for a few months. The idea was to build this into more of a community, and it failed miserably for many reasons.

Today I am launching my second attempt at bringing the community of readers together. I am launching a new forum to help connect the thousands of people who read this site every month and have a common desire to embrace the martial arts lifestyle.

Why Would I Join Another Forum

My goals are a little different than most of the other karate forums out there that I know about. The guiding idea behind this forums creation was Gichin Funakoshi’s thoughts on how there shouldn’t be styles in Karate. I am taking that a step further to say that martial arts are martial arts. A practitioner of Tae Kwon Do may call a punch by a Korean name, but we are both talking about the same technique, and we both agree that it is useful. So lets get together and share our best ideas, pick apart our worst ideas, and grow as martial artists – rather than fight about whose style is the best.

More than just learning techniques though, this forum is all about the martial lifestyle. It is going to be a place to learn about a lot of the things that we already teach about on OKI in a more relaxed manner. Ever wonder how to get into the Okinawan diet? Want to lose some weight so you can do your martial art better? Trying to figure out if going to Japan to learn martial arts is worth the money? Not sure how to fight someone on the ground using karate? These are all relevant questions on this new forum!

I’m Not Sold Yet

So for a lot of you, that pitch isn’t going to get you to sign up. Which brings me to the contest I mentioned earlier. No matter if you think this forum will take off or not, I would like to convince you to sign up and make 10 posts sometime before January 5th. Give this idea a shot and let’s see where it goes together.

In order to make it worth your wild, I am going to be giving away a signed copy of “My Journey with the Grandmaster” by Kyoshi William Hayes. All you have to do to enter the giveaway is have a registered account on the forum and for every 10 posts you make before January 5th, you will get 1 chance to win the book.

You mean any 10 posts?

They only count if you truly say something, so don’t spam the board. It won’t count!

But, if I have 100 posts, that means 10 chances at winning that really cool book?

Absolutely!

What are you waiting for? Get over there, learn about the martial arts lifestyle, and win a free book in the process!
