After that we moved onto applications for the set of shuto-uchi (knife hand blocks) in Pinan Shodan–using them in combination so that the first was the block, the second was an arm break and the third was a strike to the neck.  We also worked using the nukite-zuki (spear hand strike) and the subsequent turn to go into a hip throw, and later on worked the simultaneous block and strike and subsequent turn near the end of the kata to go into a shoulder throw.  A few other joint locks and throws were included and overall it was a lot of fun and very interesting.  My wife took a lot of pictures so it will take a while to sort through them and get them uploaded.
